Jul. 29th, 2009 12:34 pmso my computer went *phut* last night*. it's been playing up more and more over the last month or so, so it wasn't a great surprise but nethertheless I felt a bit lost once I'd spent an hour or so fiddling with it and realised it was most likely the motherboard that had gone. I suppose it was 3 years old. So I've taken the opportunity to upgrade the processor a bit. I've stuck with the AMD underdog even though they're probably not the best performance to money ratio but I was very annoyed when I read the report about intel's anti-competetive practices so I thought I'd deny them my money this time. plus it sounds like the memory I have is optimised for AMDs
have gone for an AMD Phenom X3 8650 - a 2.4Ghz triple core processor - should be a bit faster than my old AMD 64 3500 2.2Ghz - and an ASUS mobo - as the brains in the office say they're better with GeForce graphics cards like I have.
whole lot came to £130 inc a tenner for next day delivery - hey ho - should mean I get a better framerate on WoW :)
I really felt lost without it! I went to bed at 11:30!
Good job Red is round tonight :P
* Just before I went to Taekwondo. I won 3 sparring matches in a row after that which is unusual for me - I'll put it down to my mobo-related aggression
