Discovery Bay
Sep. 22nd, 2008 01:51 pmhmm must write up the weekend at somepoint but thought I'd just post now to tell Huddersfield people that they should get their arses to Discovery Bay - a Caribbean restaurant on Wood Street -
daevid and I went there on Friday night and the staff were soooooooo friendly and the food was very damned tasty - the owner's left their careers (in Sales and the RAF) to follow their dream of having a restaurant but I get the impression it doesn't do super well - maybe due to the tastes of people in huddersfield or due to its sheltered location. Anyhoo - I really can't recommend it enough - plus they do cheaper faster lunchtime stuff for people who're in the centre during the day.
We had a combination starter of salt fish cakes, fried dumplings, ribs and fried chicken - very tasty - the ribs were particularly tender. Daevid had the Rum Steak - a steak that was pan-fried then casseroled in dark but not hot spices, and I had the Jerk Chicken with Rice and Peas. lovely. then we had puddings too - I had sweet potato pudding - which is the owner's grandma's recipe. his mom still makes it and hasn't passed the recipe on to him yet - delicious and very very solid :)
