Big up the Co-Operative Bank

I have a bank account with the co-operative. they're not a particularly 'good' bank in that I have to pay for the privelidge of having an arranged over-draught with them whether I use it or not and they don't have many branches (I've never been into one - I do it all throught the postoffice). But, reading this made me realise why I decided to use them in the first place:

"In a letter earlier this month, C. Henfrey, a manager at the Co-op told Christian Voice: “Following a review of the activities of Christian Voice, we wish to give you notice that we require you to close your account with the Co-operative Bank plc. It has come to our attention that Christian Voice is engaged in discriminatory pronouncements, based on the grounds of sexual orientation. This public stance is incompatible with the position of the Co-operative Bank, which publicly supports diversity, in all its forms, for our staff, customers and other stakeholders.” The letter went on to give Christian Voice 30 days to get their account out of the Co-op. "

the whole story, as told by the christian voice, is on their website

wankers! these are the twats who tried to stop the BBC showing Jerry Springer the musical - a very nasty, homophobic fundamentalist christian group. Good on the Co-operative - I knew they were all about 'ethical' investment and environmental awareness but always worried slightly that their definition of ethical might differ slightly from mine. Apparently not too much.

No-one would have believed, in the last years of the 19th century, that human affairs were being watched from the timeless worlds of space.
No-one could have dreamed we were being scrutinised as someone with a microscope studies creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water.

woo! my amazon order just turned up. Ian's present, groundhog day and JEFF WAYNE'S WAR OF THE WORLDS on CD.

excuse me whilst I sit here grinning and regress to my childhood for a few hours.
