a day in the life...

planet orange has been quite a busy place since the last update.
Thursday lunchtime I met Dale for a pint at the pub in Guiseley - it was lovely to catch up with him - I was worried that we'd have lost the old dynamic after so long (it's over a year since I've really spoken to him to any extent and there wasn't any contact at all for about 10 months) Glad to hear he's ok and positive - hope it stays that way.
Went over to York straight from work on thursday to see Geof. was horrified by how bad he was. even with his walking stick he could only hobble at a pace that would make zimmer frame weilding pensioners shout abuse. he had nested in the living room so he didn't have to do the stairs up to his room - the rest of his flat is all on one level so that worked ok. most of the time I was there he was laying almost entirely flat and was slightly feverish too. poor fluff. I slept on the cushionless sofa by his head (actually more comfortable than his extremely firm futon which gives me killer lower back pain) Due to a broken rail at micklefield and a small quanity of oversleeping (my alarm never went off) I got to work an hour later than planned.
Friday night was Japanese Hotel Booking Night (slotted into our hectic schedules before we knew about concussion - sorry keef - and we'll actually be in Japan for the next one - gutted) We managed to book 10 of the 12 nights - and have since booked the last 2. Very exciting!
here's the loose plan
leave manchester 9:45am on the 10th
arrive friday 11th (eek that's a lot of time)
2 nights in Ikebukuro
bullet train to hiroshima
2 nights in a traditional hotel in hiroshima - visiting some island that I can't remember the name of in the middle
bullet train to kyoto
2 nights in kyoto at a hotel with remarkable toilets apparently
bullet train back to tokyo
6 nights at a 4 star hotel in akasaka (the business district with excellent foodness, within walking distance of roppongi which is quite lively)
going home on the 23rd and arriving back at manchester at 10pm :(
all this was done whilst Paul, Ross, Ian and Brad were having a boy's night in Paul's room - how cute! there were shrieks of delight and everything :)
I got up before 9am on saturday and Tim gave me a lift to the Amtrak depot in sheepscar to pick up my network kit (as they closed at 10 and stuff goes back to sender after 2 working days - FFS!) I found my screwdriver kit which prompted me to rehang the door on my beer fridge before fitting my network card. Paul fitted him and then we spent a few hours totally failing to get the 2 networked due to squad training being cancelled. Brad had a go to. by the end of it I didn't even have working internet and paul was reformatting his PC. hey ho. internet is fixed now and I'm giving it another go tonight now paul's got windows 2000 back on his. Think I'll splash out another £40 on a broadband router instead as that way we don't have to leave my pc on all the time.
Had to meet the taekwondo lot at 6 to see Jo, one of the black belts, off to america for 2 years. went for a lovely and extremely cheap curry at 7 spices (in a corset - I never learn) and then onto the packhorse. eventually toddling to the wendyhouse at 11:30. David was down from scotland a sporting a terrifying moustache and cavalier beard. Dale was there and was remarkably pissed :) hehe. A good night - at the end of it I just wanted to go to bed though so me and kath poddled home and left everyone else to it.
Tim was round again at 1 on sunday and we melted kath's brain by sorting out his database reporting in the same room as her. Serves her right for sitting round in a full length PVC dress ;) We headed over to york about 5 and met the lovely, and now able to actually walk, Geof. He's amazingly improved from last week - leading us to believe that it was an infection in the joint as suggested by the doctor. He's still quite shaky and is just finishing off his painkillers so might be worse for a couple of days but YAY! Geof-age! woo!
Tonight I'd just like to chill and relax for a while. hopefully the network thingy will work this time. if not, fuck it.
