He doesn't need that last point. He needs to get out of the house before he dies of the usual symptoms that kill extreme mmorpgers. :O

I've got this nagging feeling that mmorpgs will kill the market eventually as the dominance by a limited number of games stops others getting a foothold and ultimately the entire genre will stagnate and die (though realistically it is based more on giving players more of what they like rather than creating new ideas)

The comments under the article are exactly what you'd expect; 'get a life, it's a waste of time'.

He has a life, it's just not a life that most would choose to live. He's got focus that most people can't even come close to.

Is it a waste of time? Well, he'll go down in the history books. Trevor Francis will always be remembered as the first football player to be sold for £1million. That may not mean a lot to many people, but it's still 'something', just like what this bloke's done. Presumably, when 3.3 comes out, he'll storm through the new achievements as well. Good luck to him, and congratulations. I hope he feels it was all worth it, because that's all that should matter.

Gaming still carries this stigma, but it is slowly fading.

When it comes down to it, all human endeavour is a waste of time. It's just a matter of whether you enjoyed doing it, and sod the nay-sayers (we add the notion of 'and doesn't harm another' for morality).

On the other hand he could be one of those obsessive oriental mmorpg players who usually pop up in news items reporting their death due to marathon sessions with insufficient sleep, food and drink. He may have had a close brush with real death.
The news item does not provide enough information to provide an assessment of what he has done.

This is true, you get some very very obsessed MMO players out there who do things to the detriment of their own health.

Just like you get people obsessed with prety much anything you can think of, to the detriment of their own health. This is not an issue that is new or exclusive to MMO's, and if a person is, frankly, stupid enough to neglect food, drink, sleep etc, then they're probably likely to do that degree of harm to themselves, whether they're playing a computer game or not.

However, I can personally confirm that what he has done, in terms of the game, is quite simply amazing. It's up to the individual whether they consider it a tragic waste or not, I presonally don't.

Does beg the question "Now what?" since I suspect pvp isn't his line.

he's done a hell of a lot of PvP to do this... he'll wait a week or so, then work on the new achievements.
