hmm phone decisions...

am due an upgrade I believe - would like to stay with nokia and t-mobile

so the choice is go for a combi 35 which gives 800 minutes and unlimited texts for £25 a month or pay £40 for the flext 40 with £225's worth of credit and unlimited broadband. both of these come with a free Nokia 5800. which is really an internetty phone - so would I suddenly end up wanting the more expensive contract once I had the cheaper one - if I had a laptop it could be used as a broadband modem. but I don't (although I'd like one... but that doesn't mean I'm going to actually buy one)

hmm I suppose I could start on the combi plan and maybe scale up later...?

*crippled by indescision*

also has anyone got a 5800? reviews seem good but I'm a bit of a dyed in the wool 'simple' phone type and it may be wazzier than I need.

shouldn't you go for a provider you will actually get reception from?
mind you I can see the attraction of no signal in a mobile phone at
home :p

got it in one! and the mobile broadband/laptop combo would be fine out of the house.
and I get reception fine in my bedroom :P

i was gonna say do you actually get reception round here? I'm on tmob too and mine is shocking. Think the transmitter is by the builders merchants but there's a few streets of houses right in the way :P

*lol* was just looking at the 5800 vs the N96... seems that yodadrone only do 4 nokias and these two seem to be the best... there do seem to be less in the way of just phones now though...

Eeek!

Tempted by the N96 but not sure what the issues are... i guess i depends on what they offer me...

I have the N96 & I'm more than impressed with it. It has everything I could ever need, wifi connectivity, 5mp camera, GPS system, 16gb memory & a shit load more. It's a great phone.

I just upgraded to a Nokia 6220 classic. I must be old fashioned, I like proper buttons on a phone!

remember they likely will let you sclae up your plan but not back down, I'd check that with your provider though. The advent of more internetty mobile phones means that bandwidth
is good but I still don't see you needing a massive amount
unless you have a laptop on which you play wow or some such
over your phones connection.

I find my mobile actually provides a better connection than
my mobile broadband though. Unless you are downloading music
to your phone a massive amount of bandwidth shouldn't be an
issue.

yeah - I should go for the lower one... wonder what other phones they have as I may be able to keep my current contract (which is similar)

Actually, they'll take your plan down, but only after six months or so. My advice - get something with a real keypad and no sliding / hinges. You'll just end up mashing the screen at some point and then it'll be useless. Why my next phone is going to be a blackberry - I like the qwerty keyboard, but they get busted good if they've got moving parts.

What do you think to the Blackberry Curve or Bold?

From: [identity profile] breadlord.livejournal.com
I'd go for the bold, since the curve looks a little bit too consumer for me, and I'm a bit of a tech whore...

Heh :)

I'm looking for just a phone to do e-mails, mms/ text and just to use it as a phone... the Wi-fi aspect is also appealing...

You could ask them what it costs for an internet browsing deal. I pay an extra £5 a month for 1gb limit, which is more than enough on a phone. To check, read & download emails i only use like 25kb.

I used the Nokia 5800 quite a bit at work (back when I had a job, lol) and it kicks ass. Dont forget about its 3.5mm stereo socket!

With a Dongle?

From: [identity profile] stsquad.livejournal.com
Is that £40 with a dongle? A lot of providers explicitly rule out tethering your phone to your computer even though it's hard for them to detect it. Do you not get any internets on the cheaper option?

I'm currently paying £20 a month for more minutes that I use plus Web n' Walk. But of course my phone is well out of contract now.

yeah I'm going to give web and walk a try - I have it free for a month.

t-mobile specifically mentioned using it as a broadband modem for laptops in their blurb for their unlimited phone broadband packages
