I was reading the back of my tube of primula with smoked ham the other day (nice on celery :D ) and noticed they were owned by the kavli trust. It proclaimed that they gave money to good causes and stuff.
I was mildly amused that my buying of tasty cheese spread now had an element of social good in it... so I bought some more (Morrisons have the two new deli flavours - smoked salmon and cracked black pepper going cheapish at the mo) and read them again.
Turns out the company is owned by a Norweigian charitable trust that gives some of it's profits to charity. Yeah, though I, ever the cynic, some. Well I read up on it today here and it turns out they really are a right on ethical company and all profits are either invested in the business or given to humanitarian, cultural and research projects and as all the shares are owned by the trust no shareholder pressure/crap occurs. [livejournal.com profile] tawdryfilth may be interested to hear they appear to be doing a lot of research into dementia and improving the lives of the elderly sufferering from it.
This pleases me greatly and I shall eat more of their products in the future. Unfortunately Kavli.co.uk only shows Primula and the Castle MacLellan pate range which isn't exactly a lot of stuff but hey. I'll probably find out now that they're hideously unethical and make pate out of gay baby whales or something.

this post was an 'orange spends too long reading the back of food packages' production
