Sep. 12th, 2008 12:25 amI heard something really grr at the train station in Huddersfield tonight.
I sat down on one of those 4 seat benches - there was an asiany orientally looking guy in one of the middle 2 seats so I took the end seat leaving a space between us. He was listening to banging music on his mobile but hey - you get used to that these days. Anyhoo I started playing on my DS so was a bit distracted. I heard 2 girls come up chattering away in thick accents, they stood right next to him and told him he had to move down. From the tone of voice they used - haranging and bossy - I assumed they were his mates - maybe another couple of asian girls. They told him again - he eventually said 'no why?' and they squawked that they weren't going to sit with him in the middle of them. Yet again I just assumed they knew him from the tone they were using.
When it became clear he wasn't going to move they threatened to get security and started calling him names - most of which were dodgy and racist - but still not in nasty, angry voices. they eventually decided he was borat. I stole a look at them still imagining them to be asian too and for it to all be jokey and it was a couple of twenty something imaculately turned out caucasian girls all in white. who clearly didn't know him. they stopped picking on him at that point and had a loud and very common conversation about something - he seemed a little shaken and was talking on the phone in a fashion that suggested he was expressing his disbelief to someone.
it left me feeling very disquietened.
