Mango

It's a bite and clearly a couple of days old as it had tiny maggots (probably doing more good than harm as they'll eat the infected dead flesh... nice)
he may have to have his tail amputated or be put down once they x-ray him if it's really bad. the worst scenario is that they'll do all the work and then still have to put him down as he might have nerve damage stopping him weeing - which they won't know 'til afterwards - as it might be the swelling that was stopping him weeing.

poor little fluff - fighting with the big dogs is a silly move. :(

I've asked if I can have today off work. not much sleep (not all mango related) and general worry probably isn't condusive. plus I'm already 2.5 hours late and would possibly have to leave early too. al's just made me a cup of evil evil expresso and is already nearly an hour late for work himself.

bad news

Mango is going to be put down later this afternoon. he has a spinal fracture and a less than 3% chance of getting better. Me and Al are going to go over to say goodbye before them do it.

thanks for your well wishes. I'm just glad he came back so we didn't spend forever worrying about him dying slowly locked in someones house and that he won't have to suffer for too long.

Done now. that was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do because he looked quite healthy and perky apart from the wounds. When I had to have Fenris put down he was so painfully thin and clearly suffering that even though we'd been together more than 13 years it was so obviously the right thing to do. But it was all internal stuff with Mango and he'd have had a horrible life trying to live with it. I'm so glad Al came with me - not sure I could have gone through with it by myself. We gave him lots of hugs and kisses and said sorry and cried like girls.
it'll be a long time before I can look at the photo I took of him just beforehand.
