[livejournal.com profile] fuzzygoth's pub crawl of wonderment!

I've badgered [livejournal.com profile] fuzzygoth into arranging his pub crawl for the 31st Jan - ie next Saturday. This should be double good for a lot of you as it's after payday and being a 5th Saturday people hopefully shouldn't have regular commitments :)

So Leeds residents come out and play and lets show Fuzzy (and some of the other newish Leeds peoples like [livejournal.com profile] diceman) where there is to drink in this city and what marvellous people we are :)

There's no itinery set as yet. As he says - eating a hearty lunch is probably a good start - so my suggestion would be starting at the Palace early afternoon as it's sufficiently off to one side of the city centre to allow for directional crawling without looping and does good hearty nosh.

Other pubs I think we should possibly visit:

the Duck and Drake (if it's still the real ale pub of legend that it once was)
Whitelocks
the Angel
the Swan (possibly although it's a bit too posh for my tastes :P )
the Wrens

(any other comments and/or suggestions?)

So who's with us?

Must resist the lure of Leeds...

[identity profile] cloneboy.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
really should include the fenton as it is a bit of an old school alternative pub, or was once, not been in for years

[identity profile] sarah-orange.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
was there on saturday and it appears to be staffed by chavs now. that was a bit alarming!

All good choices! How about the adelphi as well?

the Duck and Drake (if it's still the real ale pub of legend that it once was)
Yup, ale, spit and sawdust gawd bless it!

[identity profile] sarah-orange.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
marvellous
hmm the adelphi - it's one of those places that I'm not 100% sure I'd find with out some wandering!

[identity profile] nigelmouse.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're down by the adelphi you could always include The Pin. It's a Leeds Brewery pub with real ale and most bizzarely Ale cocktails (I've not tried those yet).

Very nice food there as well, and it's only a few yards from the Adelphi.

I've always meant to try a pub crawl including the five pubs down alleys from brigate. You've got 3 of the five in that list already, and you just need to add the ship and the pack horse and you've got the set.

I haven't figured out what I'm doing that weekend. I'm tempted to be in many other places but may not have the energy.

jesus not the ship...

and I put the packhorse on and took it off...

[identity profile] nigelmouse.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I've not been in the ship in years, but I didn't think it was bad when I did go in. Is there something wrong with it these days ?

I quite like the old-school alternativeness of the packhorse's jukebox.

went in a few times about 10 years ago and it was always dog rough. clearly not as dog rough as a few of the city centre pubs (bless ye general elliot!) but still not somewhere I'd trust in the 'trouble' stakes.

packhorse is one of those places that is murdered by sport - it's ok in the summer when you can sit in the alleyway but I always found it a bit disappointing.

plus if we include too many pubs we'll be constantly moving and some people may die of alcohol poisoning so I figure that only going to actively good places is a good idea. the Pin sounds interesting...

I'd never noticed the ship's roughness, but sometimes I can be quite oblivious to these kind of things.

I usually feel uneasy in the duck and drake though, and I'm only ever there if I'm dragged along by a crowd. I've never seen the appeal of the place and always had that 'trouble' feeling there.

I've never noticed sport in the packhorse. I've usually gone in on an evening and I don't remember TV screens.

I could be up for it money/boy dependant! Don't really know fuzzy well or some of those pubs but getting to know both (all?) better would be good ;) xxxx

[identity profile] sarah-orange.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
marvellous!

[identity profile] ruby-noir.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Ow, my liver is twingeing at the thought! But yes, think I'm in :)

[identity profile] sarah-orange.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] tawdryfilth.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 04:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Awwwww, am working that weekend!

[identity profile] sarah-orange.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] tawdryfilth.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 04:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it was going to be, but had to move it a bit :o(

Mind you, will be able to come up for Friday Flock at least!

[identity profile] sarah-orange.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)

[identity profile] blondelass.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Not me.

It's my cousin's engagement party that night and it's also (as my mum has told me) a rare chance to see all three kids in the same place at the same time.

[identity profile] mofette.livejournal.com 2009-01-22 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
