A-choooo!

Ug.

I emptied my wardrobe yesterday - some into a pile for work, infest and friday flock, most into a large cardboard box (easily filled - oops) and 3 whole items into the bin. I still have a how washing basket full of clothes that'll need sorting into these 3 piles and all the stuff in my chest of drawers. damn I have a lot of clothes - mostly crap and/or pvc :P

hadn't been looking forward to this as highly I'm allergic to dust and my face actually puffed up, my eyes were streaming and I sneezed so much and so hard that I've pulled muscles in my left shoulder.

moving house is not fun :( can you hire people to come in and riffle through your stuff and decide what you need to keep and pack it otherwise throw it away?

EDIT: in the marvellous tradition of all things annoying I've realised I have a hen to at the races next weekend and will therefore need presentable clothes for that. in a double whammy the clothes I thought most appropriate are at the bottom of the packing carton. arse.

You can hire me ;-p I've been helping Aidan decide for the last 4 years or so what to pack and what to chuck out. Four runs to the local dump with a full estate car this weekend alone.

You have my sympathy as we're going through the same thing. I have however made a fortune on eBay as I had the luxury of time which you unfortunately don't. I do feel as though I've got rid of a lot of stuff that was just hanging about since the dawn of time and I feel a lot better for it.

Good luck!

I've never done any ebaying - it just seems like it'd be so fraught with hassle - I keep meaning to give someone my stuff to sell for a percentage!

I might sell some stuff after I've moved as the only things I've thrown out are crap old stuff - I still have lots of stuff I don't wear - including some latex.

with clothes best to wait til cheap listing days they have every so often. otherwise after listing fees and selling fees there's not much left for yourself!

Hon, I have a stall this weekend at Infest - drop em round mine with prices you want x

hmm. there's only really the latex skirt that's ready to go - the leotard/body is going to require a lot of buffing as it's developed patches in the wardrobe... ta anyway though

I would highly recommend the niceboots community on here as well. I've sold tons on there and all you have to do is put up photos. You don't pay any fees unlike eBay and you probably know most of the people on it already!

it's the whole guessing postage, packing it up and having to trogg all the way to a post office to send it off that puts me off. I am both lazy and too far from a post office :P

I know this far too well....I have 200+ ebay feedback and i think i've sold one item on there which was a projector, was cheap and needed collection anyway.

I have *LOADS* of stuff to sell, that will net 100's if not 1000's and i'm still apathetic.

[identity profile] daevid.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
Depends really on what you sell...

Clothes and musical equipment have always sold for me... the clothes especially if they look unique and in good nick :)

Not so much clothes...Some hifi gear, from when i upgraded.

I also have a cupboard full of expensive Nightmare Before Christmas stuff that needs to be sold and split....we are talking most the range and the walt disney classic collection for the film, including some deleted pieces etc !

When are you *actually* out?

[identity profile] sarah-orange.livejournal.com 2008-08-20 09:10 am (UTC)(link)
no idea! I'm attempting to be proactive. am waiting for the buyer to react to the survey that occured yesterday before getting too planny. that said - it's a cash sale so they don't have to rely on a mortgage lender and they knew it needed work when they made the offer. is still worrying me though.

if I know that the completion is going through on say the second weekend in september I'll probably arrange for the new house from the 1st weekend and move in then. gives some bimbling and tidying time.

eBay for clothes should be relatively easy, no major packing hassles. And eBay does work, I used to sell holidays on it.

I think the trick is to list a batch of stuff all at once, for the same length of auction. That way, they all end on the same day, and you can then take all the packages to the Post Office and send them off all at once, so fewer trips to the PO to make.

Hey. When i moved intot his house i was so stressed i was having panic attacks. My Dad suggested that i find out how much Pickfords would charge for packing up my stuff (they were doing the move for me). It only cost an extra £150 ( i know thats still a lot but id much rather pay someone to package it all up than have the stress of doing it myself!). Im not sure whether you are using a moving company but if you are then its a service they will provide. If not then im sure there must be someone who does this (moving companies may do it even if they arent moving you??).

Oh and a good website to help you out...
