happy birthday maco, shygoth and thene.

now on to the real reason for the post:
(bearing in mind I live in a 3 bedroom house I bought for £44k)
the identically sized 5 bedroom house next door is up for £195k

FUCK ME!

With pleasure, but not on a school night :p

You live in the middle of studentville, where landlords pay silly money, so the prices are even higher than out here. The house opposite us is on the market for more than twice what we paid for ours, which is terrifying!

:P

Oddly the house next door went up for sale - it's two as opposed to three bed. It's gone on the market for twice what I paid for mine....

Madness.

However it's also not real money. I doubt I'd be able to buy another house!

I reckon I could find a house for £180k!

[identity profile] maviscruet.livejournal.com 2007-02-20 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
That's true. Me I'd make about £50K which plus my income might just about buy my own house....

The house next to mine is going for £100K......

Round my way they're going for 4x what I paid for my mine 15-1/2 years ago.

Unfortunately, I paid bugger all for mine, so consequently the houses aren't going for much compared to other areas of Leeds (its a mystery to me why not as its not a bad area and far nicer than living in Bedsit Land)so if I ever came to sell Daz Towers I wouldn't be able to afford to move anywhere else :-(

As to your second point- yes please. Your place or mine? :-P

oooh

thats a lovely feeling :)
but please dont turn into me... i found out last year my house is worth 4 times what i paid for it in 2001 (but like Daz said with his, 4 times peanuts is still monkeys) and now my mum emails me everytime she sees one going for more on rightmove.com, its become an obsession!
its good to know all your hard work is a worthy investment :)

That's a spicey meatball!

I'd love to know how much mine costs now. The only problem is due to being halfway through renovations they'd probably seal the building for public health and safety.

Castlehill by any chance? Piss taking bastards.

How did they fit five in without a new dormer? No living room? (that old 'cellar-kitchen with a 2-seater sofa it' thing which students consider acceptable as communal space). No wonder they spill out into the garden so badly.

All rising prices mean is that the poor young buggers who haven't got a house probably won't have one, unless they tolerate 'crash pads' or part ownership nonsense. Still, most young people probably deserve it for being brash and noisy.

Nicer houses still go up more so it's still as big a jump up to something better for those already in a property as it ever was.

It'll end up with the only people getting on the property ladder being those cuntnecks whose wealthy parents bail them out.

it'll be the same layout as geof/brad/alex etc's house - that has a living room and kitchen in the cellar... the top 2 bedrooms will be pretty small (particularly the one without a dormer)

I got mine for £50K (3 bed, 2 reception rooms, the other 8 like it on my street are let out as 4 bedrooms) and have been told to put it on the market for £160K! however yesterday I discovered I probably can't get what I want for what I'm willing to pay and I haven't even looked properly yet. Damn the fake money of housing markets, but I'm fed up of poohy neighbours.

I've just bought a 2 bedroom semi for £150k, but still find it amazing that prices are comparable with 'darn sarf'.

I moved to Leeds because it was cheap, dammit!!
