May. 12th, 2009 03:15 pmI'm having a lady-centric couple of weekends at the mo. Last Friday saw me travelling to Wooton Wawen to join the pirate themed barging hen-do of my best friend from school Lizzy. And very marvellous it was too - she had no idea of the pirateyness and we all did very well at keeping it secret - on the Saturday morning she was presented with a treasure map that lead to a trunk full of pirate clothes and a list of tasks for Cap'n Bonecracker Doy.
We all donned our pirate gear and swashbuckled the high seas all the way to Stratford-upon-Avon. For one of her tasks Liz had to get a hostage and tie them up - we found a little old chap cycling along the tow-path and he seemed more than willing to be captured by 11 female pirates - we even gave him a nice drink of rum :) They're never going to believe him down the pub. There were lots of cute ducklings too and a nesting swan :) Everyone was really friendly and I had a really nice time given I only knew Lizzy and her sister Claire. I did manage to twist my ankle on Saturday night wrestling Winny the wriggly Welsh Circus performer when our team ambushed her team in the treasure hunt - not too badly though - should be ok later in the week. Sunday afternoon saw us donning hat, gloves and pearls to go for afternoon tea dressed as Laydeez. Amusingly Liz's mom and dad were there dressed up as serving staff :)
The barge (the floral dance from anglowelsh) was a tight squeeze but had very good faciluties given it had to deal with 11 of us (one person didn't turn up due to being ill) - I wasn't exactly brilliant at driving it and managed to sine wave most of my portion. The weather was good, the locks weren't too much effort (17 each way!) and Stratford and the route were beautiful. I'd like to organise further barging at some point but with the propsect of possibly bad weather and confined space I'd have to spend a long time chooseing who to invite :P
This weekend sees the gathering of the Whoreswomen of the Apocalypse at my house - there will be the obligatory Lady Cocktails before hand - ladies of fine standing are, of course, invited.
