I gather from the posts its not as bad as cloverfield....when i read your gripe about non-steady cam, i got all diaspointed at what looks like an interesting film.
Cloverfield did have the doubly hampering fact that the charcters were horrible, unlovable and we all started gunning for the evil aliens to kill the f*ck out of them as soon as posible and end the film.
