Anybody know anything about this lot: http://www.ebico.co.uk? they're a not for profit energy supplier. if you read through their bumpf there is mention of the christian gospels - odd - but they're very cheap and I like the idea of what they're doing. I'd be interested to know if they used any of their income to support stuff I'm dodgy about (pro-life stuff etc) but if they didn't I'd definitely be interested in changing to them.

I was thinking of switching to them too. I can't find any records of them supporting dubious causes.

Have you seen the pictures of the directors? Now if they're not involved in some crazy religious shit I'll eat my own ass.

someone says its not good value:

and

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2005/apr/23/ethicalbusiness.utilities

It is up-front about its Christian values - it was set up by practising churchgoers and boasts the Bishop of Oxford as its patron. It is a not-for-profit company, and an ethical trader.

he seems ok. heres a picture of him with a snake.

Ethical decision making would also be key he said. 'We can't look society in the face if we don't ask ourselves questions about trade justice, peace making, the environment, carbon emissions and so on. Increasingly society looks at us to demonstrate our integrity before we speak about its source. We have to live it before we can say it.'

though i can't work out if he is a decent bloke or just avoiding sticky issues.

of coure the anglican church as a whole is anti-pro-choice.

i say anti-pro-choice because they have decided they can make the choice for you, the official line being:
The church combines strong opposition to abortion with a recognition that there can be limited conditions under which it is morally legitimate. Such times as when a pregnancy threatens the life of the mother, where the mother has been raped, where the foetus is at risk of being seriously handicapped.

In all cases Anglicans stress the need for "compassion for the mother and a proper responsibility for the life of the unborn child". They therefore recognise that it may be necessary to come to different conclusions about different situations.

whilst they're entitled to their views I would never want a single penny of my money going to support any pro-life scheme/initiative. it sounds like this company would have opinions/lobbying/funds spent on enviromental and social issues and the like (they do carbon offsetting now) but not on other irrelavent to the power industry 'ethical' stuff.

I'm going to shut up now. I'm *rabidly* pro-choice and just talking about pro-lifers makes me tense and argumentative...

We're thinking of going with them.
We were originally with Npower, then we went to Southern electric. Then Npower sent someone round to convince us to change back. We agreed to go back to npower as long as they price cap. Then Souther electric came round to get us back. Southern electrics prices are cheaper than npower, but they didnt offer price capping. We told them the only way we'd come back to SE was with a price cap. They accepted.
Ebico get their stuff from southern electric.
We're just gonna wait for our first SE bill & see if we can be better off with Ebico. SE capped our prices until 2011.
