ergh telephone interview in half and a hour for a DBA job at Jewsons in Huddersfield. I'd say wish me luck but I'm not sure I want it.

update
seemed to go well - he appeared to find my funnies amusing (if you can't laugh in the DBA world you'll die for sure) and I now have an interview at 10 on tuesday morning. mmm valentine's interview...

there's going to be a fair bit of commuting if you get that one – bus into town, train to Hudds and then a 20 minute walk down Leeds road from the station.

[identity profile] sarah-orange.livejournal.com 2006-02-09 02:09 pm (UTC)(link)
20 minute walks I can handle and I can get the train in from burley park...

it's only on the same money as I'm on now so I'm not sure I can be arsed. plus who wants to be a full on DBA? dull dull job.

It’s be worth it if you had a car, but at the end of the day you’ll be able to get the same job in Leeds on a bit more money.

Commute on the Leeds-Hudds axis is a nightmare. At least you would be going the opposite way to many, but be prepared to lose 90min each way on the journey daily.

Yeah, I turned down a job in Huddersfield a while ago for that very reason. The small pay rise just wasn't worth the hassle of the commute.......

[identity profile] sarah-orange.livejournal.com 2006-02-09 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
i'd have to leave the house 30 minutes earlier in the morning but would probably get home at the same time as usual...

even if you don't get it hopefully it will get you back in the swing of having interviews?

[identity profile] querimonious.livejournal.com 2006-02-09 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Make it an interview where you ask THEM the questions. By the sound of things they need to sell the job to you and make it worth your while to commute. Give them hell!

[identity profile] dracven.livejournal.com 2006-02-09 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
If you don't want it and looking at the commute I can understand you wouldn't then just use it to get used to answering questions again in an interview environment.

Good luck with the job! (even though you sound less than enthusiastic on that front - you never know...)

Jewsons are a strange family joke to me. It's not worth even trying to explain, but just seeing the word Jewsons makes me smile.
