see me be all politically correct!

if you check out the questions at the bottom you'll see my input. although I note it's now monday and they're using the same image. yes it's just a woman in a bra but it kinda pissed me off. I like women in their bras as much as the next person who likes women in their bras but I really don't see why it's necessary for the sale of a monitor. and it's their own brand one too apparently so they should have made the ad themselves.

OH HAI GUYS - BUY DIZ MONITOR IT HAZ BOOBEZ

I don't think I'm over-reacting - I'm not hideously offended or owt I'm just disappointed that they feel that's necessary to sell monitors.

I was going to say "Have you seen PcFormat" but having just checked the back issues page they seem to have dropped the FHMPC look to their covers.
You could have referred them to the last line of the "Be Nice!!!" section of their forums faq (http://forums.aria.co.uk/faq.php)

Well at least they are going to change it. It's not offensive as such as they said but more completely un-necessary and a good way to hack off a significant % of their possible customers...

And make the rest of their customers hack off !

BTW i love Corset/boob icon for commenting on such a post !!!

Nope i think you are right... i do find it funny that companies take the "sex sells" ideal of advertising as a one size fits all thing. Next it will be hedge trimmers and garden gnomes!

ahem (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1172293/Council-orders-widow-cover-naked-garden-gnomes-complaint-neighbour.html) :D
Don't think busty wenches have got beyond chainsaws yet (mostly in Japanese horror movies :D)

And of course, the only people looking at monitors online are straight men... :-)

Given the large amount of porn on the internets, i think a woman in her bra is really quite indicative of the usage !

frankly she's waaay too over-dressed for the reality ;)

I was also about to make some comment about the internet being used largely for porn.

And they'll probably think if a woman buys that monitor, she's a lesbanom.

(and another corset picture, just for Lee)

It's a fair point. I mean it's not even a "bra size" monitor.

it's their own brand one too apparently so they should have made the ad themselves.

Just weird. I mean did the ad guy who got the contract go "a monitor advert you say? Quick, fetch me a large breasted model and a brazil flag (their other image for the monitor).

I'm just disappointed that they feel that's necessary to sell monitors.

You could argue that some customers may even feel their intelligence is being insulted...?

they usually have pretty ladies on (or football) but this is the first time they've specifically stooped to underwear...

Hmm... the other ones I looked at seemed worse, to my eye at least.

*nods* just looking at the monitors home page says it all... I feel slightly insulted even.

What is wrong with just having the monitors blank like they do on other computer websites?

Or the tropical fish style pictures they have on a handful of the monitors?

Good on ya! I know what you mean, it's not overly offensive per se, just unnecesary.

THIS!!!

Agree completely.

I wonder if this kind of thing actually works? I'm male, and it offends me both for the "women aren't interested in technology" *and* the "boobies will sell anything" attitude.

Though TBH these sort of ads even piss off my "likes to look at pretty ladies" side - they always assume every guy wants to look at women mostly nude. What about those of us dodgy old lechers who prefer to look at fully clothed women? :-)

do i get points for knowing those boobies belong to Gemma Atkinson and i'd doubt she posed for the monitor maker and its probably whipped from the web. so sexist and copyright infringing.

From: [identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_pyromancer_/
Having read the thread here, perhaps you should make another post, "Do you have permission to use that copyright image of Gemma Atkinson, as I've just emailed this page to her agent?"

[evil gryn]

Btw, looking at the "Monitors" page off the main menu, all the monitors either have muscle cars or women in bikinis. And one where they spectacularly fail to grasp the concept of "wetlook". So they are presumably only interested in selling gear to 17 year old boy racers of the kind who stick ridiculous plastic body-kits on their 900cc 7th hand Corsas and then get left behind at the lights by 79 year old grannies on mobility scooters. That's an interesting take on "inclusive marketing"!
